Ayant émergé en 1989 et devenu un pilier de la scène alternative américaine, Mudhoney est passé de Sub Pop à Reprise Records et a produit trois albums exceptionnels au cours des années 1990. Bien que n'atteignant pas le statut de nom familier dont jouissent une poignée de leurs contemporains, le groupe a maintenu une forte popularité et l'admiration de ses pairs tout au long d'une décennie qui a vu l'explosion du grunge amener la musique alternative américaine dans le courant dominant. Compilé en collaboration avec le groupe, "Real Low Vibe" présente cette période de la carrière de Mudhoney, y compris les singles, les faces B et le matériel sorti sur la brillante série d'échantillonneurs "Trademark Of Quality". Le EP «On Tour Now», uniquement promotionnel, est également inclus, initialement publié pour promouvoir une tournée américaine en 1993.
